Hague Convention 1996 – Handling cross- border child protection cases: a “key steps” guide for local authorities, health boards and NHS trusts in Wales

This consultation seeks your views on draft guidance produced by the Welsh Government.

It will support Local Authorities, Health Boards and NHS Trusts on the implementation of the 1996 Hague Convention.

The Convention covers a wide range of inter-country civil measures relating to the protection of children.  Countries participating in the Convention can request authorities in other countries to:

  • provide assistance in locating a child about whom there are protection concerns;
  • implement protection measures; and
  • provide reports on the child’s situation.
