A mother has been charged with murdering her daughter.
Chantelle Blake, 31, was due before Manchester City Magistrates Court this morning accused of killing four-year-old Kiaya at the family house on Garthorne Close, Moss Side.
Police were contacted by staff at Manchester Royal Infirmary at 7.15pm on Thursday after a woman came into the hospital and expressed concerns about the welfare of a four-year-old girl.
Officers then went to the terrace house on and found the girl dead.
A post mortem has been carried out but no cause of death was found. Further tests will be carried out although it is believed Kiaya had been suffocated.
A police spokesman said the Kiaya had not been formally identified and that officers were trying to trace family members.
Shocked neighbours in Garthorne Close described Kiaya as a ‘beautiful little girl’.
A friend, who asked not to be named, said: “Kiaya is a beautiful little girl, very bubbly. She is a beautiful child. Chantelle is a good person and a good mum. I am just in shock.”
Another neighbour who lives on Sedgeborough Road said: “The little girl was really cute. She had curly brown hair and was beautiful. I used to see her playing with other girls and she was always pushing a little pink trolley. She did seem to be quite withdrawn. This is all so sad.
“The police kicked in the front door and that was it. That’s when they found the girl. There was a lot of banging and we all knew that something was wrong.”
