Japan will join Hague Convention on child abduction

Foreign Minister says Government desires early ratification.

The Japan Times reports that the Japanese Foreign Minister, Fumio Kishida, has announced that the government will ratify 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction.

The Foreign Minister made the announcement during a visit to Washington. US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said that she hoped the Diet would pass legislation on the accord during its next ordinary session, which is expected to commence later this month.
